The first reference to Pedaso appears in some documents from 1290, theRationes Decimarum, registers of tithes that were collected by the Church State. In theRationes, imposed by Nicholas V to deal with the enterprises of Sicily, the church of S. Croce at the foot of the Aso, in Latinde pede Asi, is mentioned. However, several finds made in recent times (mosaics and amphorae) confirm the presence of settlements as early as Roman times. A nautical chart from the early fourteenth century attests to the existence of a landing at Pedaso beach and, consequently, the development of some commercial activity between sea and land. In the late Middle Ages Pedaso developed with its own castle on high ground near a cliff called La Cupa, owned by the bishop of Fermo. Despite the scant information available to us, it is possible to reconstruct, from 1290 until the middle of the last century, numerous shifts of the parish seat and the town center, which reveal, in the face of the precarious situation of the territory, a strong attachment of the population to its roots. Over the years, Pedaso has developed into a tourist resort sought after for its coastline rich in cliffs and pebbly beach that give the landscape a unique physiognomy different from that of the neighboring coastal towns; for its Blue Flag award-winning sea; for its quiet and relaxing environment suitable for families and children; for the liveliness of local events and the convenience given by the direct highway exit, which allows easy and quick access to the larger and more crowded urban centers.
